Former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Prof. Ali Ahmad, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Ahmad disclosed that consultations with party stakeholders are already underway as part of early preparations for the contest. He said his decision to join the race is driven by a commitment to provide steady leadership and reposition the state for broader economic growth and social development.
The former lawmaker also dismissed speculations suggesting he may defect to the All Progressives Congress, maintaining that he remains a loyal member of the PDP.
According to him, his focus is on strengthening internal party engagement and building consensus as the political season gradually gathers momentum ahead of 2027.
