Ilorin West/Asa: Members Federal House of Representatives

Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency is one of the most politically and historically active constituencies in Kwara State. Comprising Ilorin West, the state capital’s commercial and population centre, and Asa, a largely agrarian, culturally diverse local government, the constituency represents a blend of urban political sophistication and rural grassroots mobilisation. This nexus has, within the last two decades or so, shaped the calibre of leaders elected to various positions and influenced the political direction of Kwara’s central zone.

Since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999, the constituency has turned out one representative after another, with their respective backgrounds reflecting the political evolution of Kwara State, from the early years of the Fourth Republic, when the Saraki political structure held sway, to the emergence of reformist and youth-driven movements which have recently made their presence felt in the conduct of elections. Each representative has contributed differently: some expanded the constituency’s national visibility, others focused on constituency development, while others played major roles within their parties at the state or federal levels.
