Biography

Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu Agaka, FNSE, popularly known as Kale Kawu, is a distinguished Nigerian electrical engineer, procurement specialist, administrator, philanthropist, and community leader. Hailing from the royal family of the Agaka segment of the Shitta Oroganloye kindred within the Alimi dynasty in Ilorin, Kwara State, he is the son of the late Alhaji Ibrahim Folorunsho Kawu Agaka, the first Dan Iya of Ilorin Emirate and the 5th Daudu Olomoba Agaka.

Known for his contributions to Nigeria’s power sector, rural electrification, and community development, Engr. Kawu has earned widespread recognition as a visionary leader and humanitarian. He is the Dan Iya of Ilorin Emirate who also doubles as the Hasken Lafiagi of Lafiagi Emirate.

Professional Career

Engr. Kawu’s professional career spans over three decades in Nigeria’s power sector, with a focus on rural electrification and project management. After completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) in Ilorin in 1996, he was employed by the same organization. His career progressed through various roles in the power sector, including:

  • Lagos and Port Harcourt Zones, Rural Electrification Department, Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
  • Senior Manager, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), (2006–2010)
  • Zonal Coordinator, South West Zonal Office, REA, Osogbo, Osun State (2012–2015)
  • Director of Projects, REA Headquarters (2015-2022)
  • Director of Procurement, REA (2022–October 2023)
  • Director of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), REA (2023–June 2024)
  • Director of Projects (June 2024–July 2025)

With the PDP ticket now secured, Kawu’s candidacy represents a significant new chapter in his public career.
