Dr. Mahmud Umar Muhammad (Sodangi Etsu Patigi) is a distinguished Nigerian public servant, geospatial scientist, academic, community development expert, and APC chieftain from Patigi in Kwara North Senatorial District. With over three decades of experience in land surveying, GIS, space science, and rural development, he has contributed significantly to infrastructure, environmental sustainability, education, and community projects across Kwara North and other N-HYPPADEC states. He is recognized as a bridge-builder, visionary leader, and passionate advocate for Kwara North’s development.

Dr. Mahmud began his career as a teacher (Mathematics and Geography) in Kwara State Civil Service (1993–1995). He joined the Federal Civil Service with the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA, 1995–2002), served in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and later transferred to the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).
At NASRDA’s Centre for Geodesy and Geodynamics, Toro, Bauchi, he played key roles in international collaborations (including with NASA), geohazard mapping, seismic stations, and space geodetic projects — the first of their kind in Africa. He has held leadership positions, including acting Director, and facilitated major developmental interventions.
He currently serves as Director of Community and Rural Development at N-HYPPADEC, where he has driven erosion control, solar streetlights, motorized boreholes, classroom blocks, public toilets, and other infrastructure projects benefiting communities in Kwara North and beyond.
Dr. Mahmud Umar Muhammad stands out as a technocrat with deep national and international exposure, a proven record of delivering tangible projects, and strong traditional and grassroots acceptance in Kwara North.
